The PTFA

What is the PTFA?

The Parent Teacher and Friends Association is open to all parents, carers and extended family / friends of Abbots Hall Primary. It is a community of volunteers, who work alongside the school and teachers to benefit the school and help enhance the already fantastic educational experience children receive here.

How does the PTFA benefit the school?

Parents/carers have a big impact on how well their children can do at school. With an active role in the PTFA, you can get involved and help make a difference whilst making new friends and helping grow our school community:

  • We provide help to support the children’s learning.
  • We raise funds through events and activities to help supplement funds for school initiatives.
  • We help build the school community.
  • We provide a way to gain confidence for our volunteers.
  • We give back to the school.

Our events:

At Abbots Hall Primary, we try to keep costs to a minimum for parents/carers whilst ensuring the children have fun, and we make enough profit to enable us to put back into the school.  Every year we organise school discos; provide refreshments at events such as Sports day; Christmas concerts; new reception parent meetings; run Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day stalls, a Summer Bounce day and this year we held our very first Wonka bar sale.

We are fully aware of the rising cost of living, so we try not to raise our prices so that as many families as possible can participate.

How we give back:

We aim to give back to the school and the children as much as we can. This year we have been raising money to provide the children with a climbing wall in the playground – coming soon! We have also purchased a ‘sub-soccer’ table and helmets for the scooters recently.

We celebrate key points in the year by giving the children Easter Eggs; ice-poles on Sports Day and an end-of-year summer treat from the ice-cream van!

How can I help?

There are many ways you can help the PTFA, both big and small.  We always welcome new members and would love to meet you.  Come along to a meeting where there is always a cup of tea and a biscuit - you can find out our plans for the coming year and offer any ideas you think may help with fundraising and events.

We are always looking for volunteers to help run a stall at one of the fetes, face-painting or handing out drinks & snacks at the disco. Even if it’s just for half-an-hour.

We all have our own skills and ideas that we can use to help the PTFA and the school be the best. Most of the current PTFA members are busy working mums & grandparents who give up just a few hours' spare time to help organise and run events.  Without these volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to do half as much as we can for the children.  So please come along to any meeting and see what we are about…

Thank you for your continued support,

Keeley Cook and Katie Thompson
